Best Time to Visit Ranthambore National Park — Month-by-Month Guide

Ranthambore National Park: Open October to June

Ranthambore National Park is open for tourism from October 1st to June 30th. The park closes during the monsoon season (July–September) for maintenance, road repairs, and to allow animals to breed and raise their young undisturbed. Each month within the open season offers a distinctly different experience.

October — The Grand Opening

Weather: Warm days (30-35°C), pleasant evenings. Post-monsoon humidity lingers. Tiger Sighting: Moderate (30-35%)

October marks the reopening of the park after the monsoon break. The landscape is at its greenest, with lush vegetation and full water bodies. While the thick foliage makes tiger spotting slightly harder, the park’s beauty is at its peak. October is excellent for bird watching — migratory birds begin arriving. It’s also a relatively crowd-free month with easy booking availability.

November — Pleasant Weather Begins

Weather: Comfortable (25-30°C days, 12-18°C nights). Tiger Sighting: Moderate (30-40%)

November brings ideal weather conditions — warm days and cool nights. The vegetation starts thinning slightly, improving visibility. This is the beginning of peak tourist season, so booking 30+ days in advance is recommended. November is perfect for families with children and elderly visitors who prefer milder temperatures.

December–January — Peak Winter Season

Weather: Cool to cold (20-25°C days, 5-10°C mornings). Tiger Sighting: Moderate (35-40%)

The most popular months for tourists. Morning safaris can be chilly — carry warm layers. The dry deciduous forest starts shedding leaves, improving visibility. Lakes and waterholes begin shrinking, concentrating wildlife near remaining water sources. December and January are also excellent for photography with soft winter light. Book 45-60 days in advance — these months sell out quickly.

February–March — The Sweet Spot

Weather: Warming up (25-32°C days, 10-15°C mornings). Tiger Sighting: Good (40-50%)

February and March represent the sweet spot — pleasant weather combined with thinning vegetation. Tiger sighting rates start climbing. The dry landscape creates excellent contrast for wildlife photography. This is when we see the most satisfied visitors. February is particularly good for birdwatching as both resident and migratory species are active.

April–May — Peak Tiger Season

Weather: Hot (35-42°C days). Tiger Sighting: Excellent (50-60%)

The heat makes it uncomfortable, but the reward is worth it. With minimal vegetation and shrinking water bodies, tigers are forced to visit waterholes multiple times daily — making them highly predictable. April and May have the highest tiger sighting rates of the entire season. Carry plenty of water, sunscreen, and lightweight cotton clothing. Morning safaris (6:00 AM start) are the most comfortable.

June — Last Call Before Monsoon

Weather: Very hot (38-45°C). Pre-monsoon humidity builds. Tiger Sighting: Very Good (45-55%)

June is the final month before the park closes. It’s extremely hot, and most casual tourists avoid it — meaning fewer crowds and easier bookings. Tiger sighting chances remain excellent. Only recommended for serious wildlife enthusiasts who can handle the heat. The park typically closes by June 30th.

Our Recommendation

For the best overall experience, visit between February and April. You’ll get good weather, excellent sighting chances, and manageable crowds. For the best tiger sighting chances (and you don’t mind heat), visit in April–May. For the most pleasant weather, visit in November–December.
